Feelin' Kinda Thursday

1. I just started watching Californication. I'm four episodes deep. So far, I really like the show but the main character Hank (David Duchovny) is a like a shitty cocktail of two men I know; one that has always repulsed me and one that has recently repulsed me.

It is actually freaking me out to see such a sleazy guy onscreen and think that these are exactly the kinds of things these boys would do/have done to me or my buddies. When did I start hanging out with sleezebags? You know what it is? The banter. I'm a sucker for good banter and Hank gives great banter. I fall for it every time. *shakes head* Let it be known that great banter is my kryponite.

2. Speaking of great things, not to toot my own horn, but I rocked my guest editor stint on Philebrity the other week. Here are my top three favorite posts I wrote:

Part of me wants to print these out and put 'em up on my fridge with a gold star sticker shining triumphantly. I had so much fun helming the Good Ship Philebrity and I hope I get to do it again sometime. I especially liked ordering their interns around. I could definitely get into that. Maybe we should get interns over at Shmitten Kitten. They'd have to be hot boys and we'd make 'em brush our hair, get us iced coffee, and gives us bear hugs whenever we wanted. I'll run it by Shannon later.

3. I had an amazing time with Jenna last weekend. It's always hard when she leaves and I go back to being Jenna-less. I mean, who here is gonna remind me that I made a hammock request and was brutally denied? Oh God, I'm cringestorming just thinking about it. That one was for you, Jenna!

Philebrity Says "Happy Summer" in Video Form

Here is the "Happy Summer" video that is on Philebrity right now. The footage was shot at the graduation party Ruthie and Joey hosted for me two weeks ago. In it, you can see me push the cameraman (Joey) aside at the very end!

The Good Ol' Days

Philebrity.tv just posted up this clip about Philly's premiere Brit-pop dance party, Sorted, and their upcoming ten year anniversary this weekend. In the video, they compile photos from the last decade of the party, which has wound its way through several Philly clubs over the years.

There are a ton of shots of Chetana hamming it up for the camera. It's making me a little misty-eyed because these pics were taken when we became best friends--almost five years ago!--and it reminds me of how much fun it used to be when we first hung out. There are even a few snapshots of the notorious, drunken encounter between Chim and Jenelle in there. Snicker. Talk about a blackmail file!

Congrats to Mike Z for this milestone. I'm not sure if I'm going because with Jenna's arrival, I'm under an explicit Barbary-free order this weekend. Yup, you read that right, the one and only Miss Jenna is coming back to town to rock my world. Expect multiple viewings of Blades of Glory, Mexican Food, and intense morning breakdowns about the previous night's hijinks. I. Can't. WAIT.

She is coming to celebrate my impending graduation. Tonight is my last Thursday class. Monday will be my last Monday class. And, I have one more meeting about my Independent Project. It's winding down, thankfully.

Ok. Let's kick out the jams!

Mommy, where do band names come from?

So, I stumbled across this page which attempts to explain where bands get their names from. Here are a few of my favorites:

IGGY POP & THE STOOGES
Iguana and Iggy were nicknames since childhood. Pop was inspired by Jim Popp, a local junkie. The Stooges were originally the PSYCHEDELIC STOOGES.. which combined their love of drugs with "The Three Stooges".

LIMP BIZKIT
They got the the idea from Fred Durst's dog "Biscuit", who walks with a limp.

MOTORHEAD
Lemmy thought it was American slang for a speed freak. A Motorhead in American slang is more commonly someone who loves to work on cars or motorcycles.

'N SYNC
From the last letter of each band member's name: justiN, chriS, joeY, lanstoN and jC.

PM DAWN
Inspired by a Bible quote, "In the darkest hour comes the light."

PULP
Originally called Arabacus Pulp, after a commodity Jarvis Cocker learned about during economics. This was shortened to Pulp because nobody else knew what the full name meant.

ROSE, AXL
Guns 'n' Roses singer's name is an anagram of oral sex

SKID ROW
Sabo originally liked the name Skip Rope, but Jon Bon Jovi convinced him Skid Row would sound more professional. Skid Row is slang for run down inner city neighborhoods.

SMALL FACES
Inspired by The Who song "I'm the Face". Face is Mod talk for a "stylish guy" and the band were all short lads.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
Originally called Mighty Joe Young, but their lawyer told them this name was already being used by a local blues musician. They changed the band's name to Shirley Temple's Pussy, but then changed the name again due to record label pressure. They liked the initials STP (from the STP Motor Oil Company logo) and eventually settled on the name Stereo Temple Pirates, but just prior to their first record it was suggested to change Stereo to Stone, and Pirates (which sounded imposing) to Pilots, and they became officially the Stone Temple Pilots in 1990.

UB40
Named after the paper form issued by the UK government's Department of Employment at the time of the band's formation for claiming unemployment benefit. UB40 = Unemployment Benefit, Form 40. A few of the band members met at the dole office every week while signing on for their weekly benifits. The title of their first album was called 'Signing Off'!

Oh man, some of these entries really cracked me up.

In other news, I have been hard at work at my new job being managing editor for philebrity.tv. So far, its been radical. I love Joey and Ruth and I'm super excited about working with them. i posted a few new shows today so check it out.

Okey doke. I'm off to make dinner.

Dipping my toe in a sea of vlog

I just saw this on Philebrity. This is my friend Patricio. Apparently, he is Philebrity's new news correspondent. I love it! Oh, Patricio, you crack me up.

Patricio reporting "live" from in front of Philadelphia's City Hall. He's there covering the Michael Nutter press meeting on 2/20/07 regarding the questionable involovment of Milton Street's mayoral ambitions.
