I'm Getting My Spielberg On

Or, more like my low-tech video music director on. So, I finally shot some footage last night at the Dirty on Purpose/ Fujyia and Myagi show at Johnny Brenda's, here in Philly. This is my first attempt at videotaping live music and I'm still fussing with the knobs, so to speak.

This is the song DoP opened with. It starts off really dark, due to the fact that like, no lights were on, but it gets better.

And, here is Fugyia and Myagi doing a live version of "Ankle Injuries." It is really dark due to low lighting, but after a while you get used to it.

I uploaded both videos to Viddler and Vimeo, but I gotta say, I like Vimeo better because the presentation is more modern. I like how you can leave comments on video clips in Viddler, but overall, its just not as...sexy.

The show was fantastic last night. It was amazing to see Doug, as always. We've been BFF for, like, 11 years now and its so rad that we still are close. I got updates on a bunch of school friends. James, Brendan, Jonathon, Bill--I miss you, dudes!

Oh, and I talked to Jenna last night. I'm gonna try and visit her next week in nyc for a spell. I need some Jenna-time so I'm looking forward to that.

Dirty on Purpose, Truthfully

Woohoo! Damn, I'm in a good mood. My bestest buddy from school, Doug, will be in town. His band, Dirty on Purpose, will be playing upstairs at Johnny Brenda's tonight. I think they're even gonna crash at my place afterwards. We're gonna have a slumber par-tay. Maybe they'll be a pillow fight or two. Maybe some rounds of Girl Talk. Although I bet it'll probably just be tired, stinky boys drinkin beers and thanking me a million times for my hospitality.

If you haven't heard of Dirty on Purpose, check their video for their song "Mind Blindness." If you look closely, you'll see cameos from a few of my friends in it too, like Nick kissing a girl and their tour manager, Jeiun (sp?), looking cute.

So, I saw the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" last night. Man, those were some scary stats Mr. Gore presented. So, why hasn't the Green philosophy been embraced by the mainstream media? I gotta say, it has been really hard for environmentalists to appear like a movement not exclusively made for hippies and crackpots. There seems to be a stigma for caring. Like, it is more American to not give a fuck. Hopefully this movie will appeal to a wider-range of people and create some positive changes.

As a side note, this film should've been sponsored by Microsoft Office and Apple computers. Man, Al works that Powerpoint! Every other frame was him laboring over slide placement on his Mac. I'm telling you, Powerpoint and his laptop should've been citied as supporting cast members of the film.

Dirty on Purpose on Purpose

I just recieved word that I'll be in Chicago when my boy doug's band, Dirty on Purpose, will be playing. I'm insanely excited to swoop in and see him and the rest of the boys.

Doug and I have been friends since college. I stay at his place in Greenpoint every time I come to nyc and his band stays with me everytime they come to Philly. I love him very much and he's always been a fantastic friend to me. He is easygoing, wickedly smart, and just a great guy all around. Everyone should have a Doug in their life.

I attended Doug's wedding last September, and i have to say, it was one of the best weekends of my life. I got to see a ton of old school friends and I even connected with some people who I never got a chance to know in school. Anyways, check out their video and check them out on tour. Doug is the the blond drummer with the amazing voice. That's my boy!

Here's their video for "Mind Blindness." Enjoy!
