Attuned

There's been a void in my life now that Fall Out Boy is kaput. I still listen to them constantly, but I'm sad that they won't be putting out any more songs. Boohoo, I know. Patrick Stump is supposedly releasing a solo album this summer and I can't wait to hear it. But until that comes, I'm here twiddling my thumbs.

I haven't found any other groups that I'm nearly as enthusiastic about (read: obsessed with), but I have been digging a few bands lately.

1. The Gaslight Anthem. These guys have the whole jangly/Springsteen/ earnest punk blue-collar thing going on, which I like. They remind me of Alkaline Trio if they gave up the coffin/dying/alcoholic shtick. If I still wrote about music, I'd definitely pitch Gaslight Anthem to all of my editors. But, I don't so I just have to be a normal fan about it, which is cool for its own reasons.

Here's their video for their song "'59 Sound." It's one of my favorite ones off their last record.

2. Against Me! These guys have a similar gruff punk rock thing going on with lots of poppy singalong background vocals swirling around which I love. If I was in high school, I would DEFINITELY go to all of their shows. Here's my favorite song of theirs, "Thrash Unreal" from their last record. YouTube won't let me embed their official video, but here's the song.

I'm also loving their new song, "I Was A Teenage Anarchist." I sing along to it all the time when I'm in the shower.

3. Empires: This is a band that I've been spinning a lot lately. They hail from Chicago--which I automatically find endearing--and they sound a lot like Fall Out Boy with a dash of My Chemical Romance's drama thrown in. When I first heard this song, I thought that Patrick must've done guest vocals, but it turns out that it's just how the singer sings. How rad is that? I wish they were around when I was younger so I could've seen 'em play at the Fireside. Here's their song, "Under the Bright Lights." Check it out.

Honorable mentions: I've also been spinning the new Coheed and Cambria, Band of Horses, and Paramore albums.

What have you guys been listening to? Anything good lately?

What A Perfect Day

I wish I spent it with you.

Meet My New Dude

Look, guys! You can make your own Charlie. I'm peering deep into the crystal ball and I'm predicting lots of papercuts in my future.

I Kinda Love This Hairbrush Shakin' Kid

That's one angry little girl. You could lose a a quarter in those nostrils! I also kind of love the poodle who's just chillin' there like whatevs. He's unfazed by her hissy fit. He's probably used to it.

Smile

This makes me smile.

Have We Talked About How Hot Peter Jackson Is?

I'll bet that he gives great foot rubs, knows all about fine wines, and smells like moss. Look how cute he is! He has "director hair" and it looks good on him. Thumbs up, Peter. THUMBS WAY THE FUCK UP.

Car Kissers

I love getting kissed in a guy's car because the air inside feels still and quiet. It's like we're in a movie. I can hear his heart beating faster. It's faint, but I can hear it. All that matters it the way our lips perfectly align, like soft magnets.

Motorin', What's Your Price For Flight?

Are those even the lyrics to the song "Sister Christian"? I don't feel like googling it.

So, yesterday I zipped up to Woodstock, NY for the day. Alexis wants to rent a house there for a few weeks this summer so I tagged along to help navigate/ check out the places because if she's up there, I'll probably go with her too, at least for a spell.

I can say with confidence that I am not a hippie. Never have, never will be. All that tie-dye propped in and around the town center made me want to scratch my eyes out. I did like how there wasn't a huge corporate presence in the town center: no Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, or McDonalds. That was cool. But, when we tried to find a cafe to hop on the Internet and re-charge our phones, we were stumped. Nothing seemed conducive to it. They were all over-priced sit down restaurants and we didn't feel like dealing with that.

We popped into a little bakery to grab lunch. I got a terrible, over-priced grilled cheese that wasn't very good and a few cookies to bring back to my Mom. They were macarons (don't feel like googling that either), a delicate French cookie. I know she's never had one so I bought her a few to try.

Today, I'm going to my third cousin's wedding in Upstate New York (again! I just went yesterday.) I really don't want to go but since both of my grandparents are gone, I know it's important that we try to cling to the family we have left. I have SO MUCH writing to do and the last thing I wanna do is be in a car for a few hours on the drive. I'm gonna bring my computer and try to get some work done. I'm sure I'll eat too much, drink too much, and fall asleep on the way home so I gotta get as much done on the way there as possible.

AND, I'm going to Boston this Thursday to visit my sister and the baby, which I'm excited about. It's been fun getting the hell out of Philly. I just need to book my ticket to Chicago this August then I'm all set.  Weeeeeeeee!

PS- My Mom liked the cookies.

I'm Such A Sci-Fi Nerd

If you can name where this shot is from, I'll write you a haiku. Seriously. Girl Scout's honor.

My Style Icon

I feel this: the hair, the lips, the attitude. Yup.

So, What The Hell Is Up With Me?

Hey guys!

What is new with me? Glad you asked. I'm heading to Boston in two weeks to kick it with my sister Sarah and her baby. What are we gonna do? Good question. We'll probably walk around a lot. I'm gonna hold a baby, which will rule. We'll probably watch tv and eat ice cream. All radical pursuits.

What else? Hmmmm. I went to the Roots picnic with Jenna on Saturday. We had backstage passes (woohoo!) so that was really fun. We drank beers and gave out hugs like they were candy. I got to kiss Mayer Hawthorne a few times. Check this guy out:

It was only a kiss on the cheek BUT STILL! It's been a while since being near a guy made me wobbly in the knees but this guy was a straight-up knee wobbler. SO DREAMY! The night before I saw him at some XPN event and I got to listen to a few of his new songs backstage. They were so good I said that one of them made me pregnant. I'd have to take the song to Maury and have a paternity test then I'd be like, "I'm a TRILLION percent sure that that song is my baby daddy." Maybe you had to be there, but it was funny. He laughed. I liked making him laugh.

After the Roots picnic, Jenna and I zipped over to Pho Ha and jammed on some noodles. It was a perfect Saturday, if you ask me.

Tonight I'm gonna see Get Him to the Greek which I'm pumped about. Maybe I'll sneak a beer in. I'm a badass, I know.

This Line Always Cracks Me Up

I love you, Roman! Party Down is one of my favorite shows right now. I gotta buy the first season and just watch it a million times with Jenna so we can quote the funniest lines to each other non-stop.

This Makes Me Want To Take The Day Off

This always REALLY makes me wish I was in Chicago right now. Go, Ferris, go!
